The Turkish language is the official language of Turkey, Cyprus, Northern Cyprus, Kosovo, and the Republic of Macedonia, also spoken in Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Germany, Greece, Romania, and Serbia. It is spoken by approximately 75 million people and is ranked 19-22 on the list of languages by number of native speakers. What language family Turkish belongs to is still being debated however most people believe it is part of the Altaic language family. The Altaic language family includes Mongolian languages such as Daur, Mongour, Dongxiang, Tungus languages, Evenki, Xibe, Even, and Turkic languages, Chuvash, Ainu, and Uyghur. Turkish uses a variant of the Latin alphabet.
