The Slovak language is the official language of Slovakia, Vojvodina, and European Union, also spoken in the United States, and Czech Republic. It is spoken by approximately 6 million people and belongs to the West Slavic languages in the Indo-European language family. Along side the other Indo-European languages such as the Romance languages English, Italian, Romanian, Spanish, and Portuguese and the Germanic languages such as Dutch, English, Norwegian, and Swedish among others. Slovak is closely related to Czech, Polish, and Sorbian and uses a variant of the Latin alphabet.
